Austrian Fir For a long time, imported American Port Orford Cedar shafting was the preferred choice for wooden arrow making. However, over the last 10 years availability of good quality Cedar has been in decline, and the resulting quality of arrow shafting has been inconsistent. Because of this situation we have sourced a new European alternative. This is Austrian Fir. After testing, we have found the average batch of Austrian Fir shafts to be straighter, have more consistent spining and of better finish than the equivalent POC shafts. Austrian Fir is lighter in colour and weighs approximately 10% lighter than a POC of the same spine. The fir wood is lumbered in winter and very often under difficult conditions, in consideration of moon-phases. This Austrian product offers a perfect alternative to American cedar shafts. Its European location and plentiful supply is also important for the independence of archery in Europe!
